At the sound of your voice
fah
Fire is burning
lah
Revival is here
fah
The nations will worship

We have different musical instruments and they have their various ways of accompanying songs. This tutorial will teach you how to play to praise and worship songs with bass guitar
The bass guitar is like the background of the music that acts as the foundation for all other musical instruments to to rest upon.
Therefore as a bass guitarist you need to workwell with the correct timing of the song and a regular groove.
how to play to praise and worship songs with bass guitar
1. Know the progression of the song
2. Improvise a suitable groove for the progression.
We shall take 5 Nigerian gospel praise songs to illustrate the points above:
1. Kosobabire, kosi bababire, koma solorun bire Igwe
f d s d
Now you can see that that song written above has the progression of fah doh soh doh
That is “Igwe” by mid night crew
Now that we have written the progression below the song and we know the progression of the song well. The next thig is to improvise a very good groove from the progression. How do we do that?
1. We would pick each notes of the progression one after the other
2. We would find suitable notes that corresponds with each of the notes of the progression
Illustration:
Let us pick the first note of the progression which is “fah”, How do we know suitable notes for it?
We can know them through the chord tone.
The Major chord for “fah” is fah lah doh
so therefore we can choose between “lah” and “doh”.
Left to me alone i would choose only “doh”
Now lets go to the next note of the progression which is doh
the major chord for “doh” is “doh mi soh”
Left to me alone I would choose only “soh” for my improvisation.
The Next note on the progression is “Soh”
The major chord for “Soh” is “soh tii reh”
I would choose “reh”
Note that you can choose your notes from the chords as you like, that is why it is called improvisation
Now let us go back to our song
Kosobabire, kosi bababire, koma solorun bire Igwe
f d s d
(f d f) (d s d) (s r s) (d s d)
Now instead of playing the usual progression, you have more notes to play, make sure you play them in a manner by which it follows with the timing of the song. Do we understand?
You can watch the video below and above for further explanation:
The remaining songs that we talked about are also illustrated in the video.
They are
2. Have you heard what the lord has done 3. Since I was born 4. Kabi oo, O sii baba, tire ni onise iyanu 5. Ohi ooooo. Sai

Before we begin I want to get rid of this assumption:
1.That there is a particular pattern that can play all gospel praise songs.
There is no such pattern as this because a particular pattern is based on a chord progression; and you know that different songs have their different progressions.
And I also want you to note that, different songs have their own different progressions. So your ears should be at work whenever you are about to play. An easy way around this is for you to reharse with our chordprogression ebook.
I hear this a lot of times from beginners:
“I’m good in playing worship but my problem is playing praises”
The truth is you are not good in playing either of them. Most people make that statement because they have memorized playing a few worship songs, then they feel they can handle all worship songs. Go and listen to them play then you would know hear how horrible they sound. They sound horrible because they play the wrong progressions to songs.
1.You should be able to play the progression of any song by just hearing it. I know this would be very hard for beginners, you just have to train your ears to know the right chords that should accompany song. You should get this chord progression ebook of over 100 nigerian praiseand worship songs. The ebook would help you develop your ears as long as you practice.
2.You should be able to move swiftly between chords. This is very important. You do not want to be slowing down the rhythm simply because you are unable to sound each chord correctly at the right time. You should be able to go swiftly from “doh to fah”, or from “fah to lah” or from “reh to soh” or from “mi to lah” or from “doh to mi”e.t.c You can watch our chord progression series video for more lessons.
3.You should be able to play “accompany chords” on the left hand and play the notes of songs on the right hand. In other words you should be able to solo and at the same time accompany your solo with chords. It is very simple, for a start you can use hymns to practice.
Having knowing all these requirements,
How do you make all make your accompaniment of gospel praise songs more interesting.
